7/9 Weeks Down
This was a weird week. After the marathon of the big week we crashed over the weekend before 80 more people arrived Sunday. The difference in campus presence is wild and the cafe has felt empty all week. The single shift has been an incredibly welcome change though. Jemma and I were placed with an awesome team from Virginia for our third time together. We got Gerson and his dad Hernan as our foreman for my first D House (8 feet longer -with two additional bedrooms) which were both things I’d been hoping for all summer. The team was incredibly hard working and we made great progress Monday and Tuesday. I of course took lead on my favorite part of the house - the roof. Wednesday after being there for 30 mins Grace came over from her job site because they were missing all our their Spanish speakers due to VBS or sickness. Gerson sent me over for the day so that I could translate and also to help because they were a little behind. It was a weird trip to do the same thing I had done the day before on the roof. At the end of the day though we finished the whole roof. It was fun to watch my other roof from this one as we both shingled and we caught up on our smaller roof. I felt a bit out of place on a different site with a different site and with a different team. Grace said the boys of the family were soo blessed to have an older guy speaking to them in their language though so it was totally worth it. Thursday I was able to go back to my job site since the VBS was over. We put the finishing touches on our house until dedication at 12. I shared Kohn 13:34-35 at the dedication which had been on my heart all week. The family and local church and Pastor Oscar had done such an incredible job of demonstrating the love of Christ at the same time as this team had been building them a house trying to do the same. Last night the interns enjoyed a beatiful sunset from the roof and a little worship session before spending a couple hours in deep and vulnerable conversation together which was so fun. This group is such an incredible example of grace and truth with each other and being a safe place to process hurts and questions. Today we did chores and hit the beach before dinner. Tomorrow we are going to a water park in Tijuana where my parents will pick me up for the week leading JH at Hume before I come back here for the last week!
So glad God blessed your desire to work on a bigger house. It was a pure honor to meet your fellow interns with Osmar and Pancho.
