One Week In

The last few days have flown by. After a pretty slow weekend of orientation and training the first church group arrived Sunday afternoon. Sunday morning we went to Yugo church which is a bilingual church on campus for the neighborhood, staff, and interns. Pastor Rey taught on caring for our soul and his message really resonated with me. It continued the thoughts I’ve had since reading “Ruthless Elimination of Hurry”. I want to be as intentional about feeding my soul as I am for my body.

In the evening we met the teams and the families we would be building the house for. Then we shared a meal with both where my Spanish skills were totally tested as I translated between the church team from Alabama and the family. Since then the week has been a blur. We’ve had morning and evening chapels between which we’ve had 3 solid days of work on the house. (Progress photos on the photos page). It has been so great to work with Victor (the younger son of the family we are building for). He is super funny. I also randomly found out one of my classmates from school (Grayson) is long time friends with members of my build team. One of the guys, Peter, was super excited that I knew Grayson. It’s been great to learn a lot more on the build about the different aspects. There’s so much to do and I have a lot to learn. I am so excited for dedication tomorrow. We will get to bless the family with a prayer or encouragement and then give them keys to their very own home.

  1. Your Spanish is probably going to make a leap in development from being immersed for two months.

  2. So excited that you met some of Grayson’s friends. How old is Your new friend Victor? Love the continuing theme of eliminating hurry. So glad to have read that book and “Soul Keeping” to be making active choices to move away from hurry.
