A Week of Blur and Blessing

    It’s been a wild week. Saturday was a lovely day of rest. We slept well, spent time at the beach and went to Abi and Osmar’s (intern leaders) baby shower. Sunday I slept in and was very encouraged and concocted by Nathan’s message on generosity. It really nicely complimented the conversations I had been having with my lifegroup during the semester. Sunday afternoon we had a short birthday party for Lauren before the teams got here. 

    Sunday at 3 teams started arriving. The first team was Will’s church finally bringing our 8th intern. The construction days went quick. We had a lot of kids on our team that could speak Spanish because of their immersion school. They would leave for VBS after lunch everyday and then we would crank out a few more hours of work. Wednesday we stayed at work till 6:15 in order to finish the house early. Because we were farthest away we had to dedicate first or last so we opted for the former. It meant a really long day Wednesday but a nice short one Thursday. That’s not to say no work happened Thursday. Praise be to God; both the mother and father gave their lives to Christ. The mom had been in the church for year but never made a personal commitment and the dad said he had been running from God for years. It was so awesome to see them work it through during the week and come to that decision at the end of the week. It is such a privilege to be here with this awesome ministry. 

    Tonight for outreach we went to an orphanage and oh my gosh. It was so sweet. I did not want to leave. I just wanna come back and adopt those precious children. Tomorrow we go to Playa Eacondida (Hidden Beach).

    Praise be to God! He is so awesome to give us such full hearts for others. Glad the teaching is good and looking forward to your adoptions. So grateful for that couples commitment to Christ.

Last week.... :(

 Last week was a trip. Saturday we went to the waterpark with my family. It was so sweet seeing my mom getting one on one time with each of the interns and Osmar. Then we left and drove home with a stop at Portillos of course.  We got home around 11pm and I had to unpack, repack and get ready for Hume. Sunday morning I left for church to go spend the week with junior highers. It was so heartbreaking to leave my Mexico family for the week. I missed them so much and it was bizarre to be experiencing that alone before everyone will when we leave.      The week at Hume was awesome. I functioned as the Junior High youth pastor with an amazing team of 5 leaders. We had 29 students under our care out of the 500 junior highers and 1,000 high schoolers at Hume that week.  I had a cabin of four 6th graders and three 8th graders. Time is Flying; Big Week Coming

  Man time is flying. It is unbelievable that we are more than halfway done with our summer here. This week was super sweet. It was a medium size group of individuals and family with one church group. A number of the interns families were here which was super fun. I definitely missed my family but it was sweet to have time to get to know my teammates parents. I built with the ome church group. They were from CA (in San Diego) and it was myself and Jemma (the volunteer from Stockton) with them so it was fun to be Cali folks. It was a great week construction wise and relationally with them just hanging out in traffic and having fun while working hard on the build.   The week was also pretty tough. There were some job site frustrations and I continue to realize that even when I think I’ve learned how to do a part of the house there is more to learn. Stateside Reflections...

 Wow....what a Summer.... I cannot believe it's over. The whole thing flew by. If I had to summarize the whole summer in one word, I think it would be "joy". I was filled with so much joy this summer. It was such a joy to be a part of such an incredible team. The interns and Osmar became a second family to me or as my mom and I call it, "my Mexico family". It was such a joy to be part of such a clearly purposeful and meaningful ministry. What a joy to see families receiving their first homes and a joy to see teams from Canada and the States come alive on mission. What a joy to see mothers and father give their lives to Christ. It was a joy and privilege to be around such worshippers whether in song or in action. It was even a joy to be cleaning dishes in the dish pit. What a joy that over 100 houses were built and over 150 people gave their lives to Christ just this summer.  I look back on all that I got to do and be a part of and it is wild.
